CMN Projects Selected from Overall Field of More than 750 Entries
WATERTOWN, MA - June 24, 2003 -- Corey McPherson Nash (CMN/ http://www.cmndesign.com), an award-winning integrated design firm providing branding, advertising, print and interactive services, today announced it has won three Best of New England (BONE) awards from the American Institute of Graphic Arts. CMN was awarded the BONE honors for its work for Avaki (logo and stationery system), Buckingham Browne&Nichols School (admissions package) and the Lemelson-MIT Program (companion Web site for its book, Inventing Modern America).
For Avaki, a Burlington, Mass.-based high technology company, CMN designed a logo and stationery system that reinforced the company's brand position as a "new blue chip" company. CMN met this challenge by combining a neutral corporate gray with punches of bright blue, as well as interesting materials, patterns and unusual die-cuts.
CMN's objective for Cambridge, Mass.-based Buckingham Brown&Nichols' admissions package was to highlight the school's greatest assets - its energetic faculty and student body, as well as its diverse academic program - to prospective students. The design achieves the objective by selecting a sample of students and faculty to represent various aspects of the school. Through bold photography and evocative profiles, the students and faculty are brought to life, serving as interlocutors for different chapters in the Buckingham Brown&Nichols story.
The Lemelson-MIT program's mission is to inspire the idea of innovation to people interested in science and technology. CMN designed a new companion Web site for the Lemelson-MIT program's book, Inventing Modern America. The purpose of the site was to drive book sales and convey the spirit of invention with an interactive twist. Through audio files, text and video clips, CMN showcased the lives and work of five intriguing inventors. To present the history of inventions in an engaging way, CMN custom designed two games, one in HTML and one using Shockwave. Blocks of energetic colors and offbeat illustrations and images create both an artful and intellectual tone.
The BONE award is New England's premier graphic design competition. This year, the competition received more than 750 entries from across the region. Competition judges included Mark Oldach of VSA, Noreen Morioka of AdamsMorioka and Lisa Strausfeld of Pentagram. Winning BONE submissions will be on display at the Bakalar Gallery at the Massachusetts College of Art from June 12 - September 28, 2003.
